On the bus again June 24, 2008

Posted by evilzenscientist in : evilzenscientist , trackback

I’m taking the Connector bus again to work. An earlier start to set up for todays meetings; but it’s still a lot easier than the commute.

On another green note – composting starts today in my building. All of the cups, plates etc are moving to compostable paper from polystyrene. Good news.

I guess some of this makes up for owning a Landrover D3 V8 which puts out 354g/km on the emissions test… ;o)

You not considered pedal power ? Eco friendly and all that

Suggestion: Get some of that waste cooking oil they fry all of that crap in the MS canteen in and make your own Biodiesel. The Disco 3 will run great on B100 and it’s carbon neutral.

The god of Bio, Graham Laming, is from the midlands as well!

Better still, suggest it to Bill and run the connector bus on it.

Tony - it’s a petrol V8 - they don’t do the diesel version in the states. Also diesel is like in the UK - way more per gallon right now.

I just checked on the Connector buses; currently not running bio-diesel - but they have taken 20,000 single rides off the roads per month. That’s pretty impressive.

*sigh*, global warming, not to mention everyone elses economy, is screwed if your only choice of engine is a V8 petrol. The UK V8 is a nice new diesel with 200+ hp :-)

Even the Explorer has a diesel offering now….

It’s a shame. The cost of bio will be about 10 cents a (US) gallon and save a ridiculous tonnage of CO2.

Take a look at the GL processor and tell me you wouldn’t have fun with that and several beers in the garden shed?

Tony

Did you read this in the Guardian: http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2008/jul/03/biofuels.renewableenergy

Biofuels have forced global food prices up by 75% - far more than previously estimated - according to a confidential World Bank report obtained by the Guardian.

The Landy is only for moving the extended family and getting around in the snow/wet. I commute on the bus or in the small VW.
