Vista, HP and drivers for a HP Photosmart 7150 June 29, 2007
Posted by evilzenscientist in : Technology, evilzenscientist , 2 commentsAt last HP have released basic drivers for the HP Photosmart 7150 for Vista.
They describe these as “basic” - I’ll report progress later.
This download includes a Print Driver only. This driver makes it possible to use the basic functions for the printer. HP will not be providing a Full Featured Software and Driver for this product; therefore, some functionality may be lost when you use this product with Windows Vista.
Driver is available via www.hp.com - the direct link is here.
Collanos 1.1 update June 27, 2007
Posted by evilzenscientist in : Technology, evilzenscientist , 1 comment so farBack to Collanos 1.1 - and the good news is that most of the bugs seem to be ironed out.
I’m now sharing several GB with my team; performance is good if tweaked.

Building panoramic pictures
Posted by evilzenscientist in : evilzenscientist , add a commentI’ve been asked a few times which tools I use to build the panoramic pictures.
I use Hugin with autopano-sift for control point generation. I also use enblend for smooth blending.
There is a great manual online now at the Hugin Wiki - http://wiki.panotools.org/Hugin
ZENworks Configuration Management - open beta June 24, 2007
Posted by evilzenscientist in : Novell, ZENworks , add a commentI spent some time this morning on the forums for the ZCM open beta.
A frequent comment is regarding downloading the ZCM ISO - it’s 4GB in size.
I recommend testing the md5 hash - I use Digest IT 2004.
3M Privacy Filters June 23, 2007
Posted by evilzenscientist in : evilzenscientist , add a commentI wrote last year about the 3M Privacy Filters; I’ve not worked with my laptop and confidential data on a flight in over three years.
I recently purchased the filters for my team; I must say I am impressed. They are unobtrusive - and really work.
PGP and my brick of a laptop June 15, 2007
Posted by evilzenscientist in : Technology , 4 commentsSomehow my PGP passphrase got corrupted; there’s no way back.
PGP support tried - but my brick of a laptop needs a rebuild.
I was disappointed at how seemingly fragile the passphrase piece is; the support guy at PGP said he’d never seen it before.
Hmm.
Back to a new build; if it happens again I’ll be somewhat upset..
Laptop fun June 12, 2007
Posted by evilzenscientist in : Technology , 1 comment so farSomehow the SATA drive in my new Thinkpad is screwy. The surface test is good; but PGP Whole Disk Encryption doesn’t like it. It doesn’t recognise my passphrases.
I’m back up and kinda running on my ‘old’ ATA drive in my new laptop; it’s faster but the drive is slow and I’ve lost a little data.
I’m going to get a USB-SATA enclosure and see if I can restore the drive.
Want to be a ZENworks Product Manager? June 8, 2007
Posted by evilzenscientist in : Novell, ZENworks , add a commentWe’re growing!
There are a few open opportunities within the ZENworks Business Unit for Product Managers.
Ideally we are looking for people who can ‘hit the ground running’.
If you need any additional information - or if you want to apply - get in touch via the Novell email address.
[Edit - the role would probably be based at one of our ZENworks Development Centres - namely Provo, UT, Boston, MA or Bangalore, India]
